FAQ

General

No, there is no internet. It is 1919. However, we also don’t expect you to do a long thread for each scene. Outside of normal threads, we are going to allow reaction and conversation threads. These threads should still be third person, but are designed to be quick, like network posts.

Reaction thread: Not every event needs a full thread, but in such a close setting a lot of things happen that others may see. A player will create a post in character, third person. They can include any OOC information that doesn’t quite fit in the narrative. Others can then post reactions to this (IC, third person). It is possible for a reply to become a thread or conversation (just keep it in the same reaction post so continuity remains in tact).

Conversation Thread: These can act similar to network style posts. You can chose to have multiple little conversations in one post, or split them up amongst many. These should all be IC, third person however the focus is on the dialogue, not the actions. It’s intended to be like quick conversations. *Important* Each conversation should have a date/time/location with it.

Character Creation

The meaning can differ from species to species. For Shifters, it’s the type of animal they can shift into. For Angels and demons it’s the type of person/species/place/etc they’re drawn to help/hurt.

A tier is like a level, only you don’t advance all at once. It is a slow, fluid progression from one tier to another, and for the most part there is no sudden IC realization that a character has advanced in ability. We mostly put this in as a marker for other players to know what your character can do.

Yes you can! You just need mod approval to do so, and you need to have had some experience playing your character at their current tier, to show that they have been practicing and growing in control. Keep in mind, however, that tier advancement usually takes a long time, so it isn’t likely your character will advance tiers more than once over the course of the game, unless we last a good, long time 🙂

World Building

The Fae is a place of magic. In this realm live the species called the Fae. I know it’s confusing, but context is key. The real will always be listed as The Fae, while the people can be listed as the Fae, or just Fae in general.

While there will be some stories released as the game progresses about the Fae and the realm they come from (we’ll link here as that happens). The basics is that the Fae are a race of magical beings that are made of magic and put a lot of the mechanics and ‘rules’ of magic into place a long, long, long time ago. Also, they seemingly vanished just as long ago.

The Fae is a realm of magic. Once it intersected with our world, but has since split. Stories about The Fae and it’s relation to our world will be released later, links will be available under the above FAQ.

A leyline is a place where The Fae and our world are still connected. Think of it like a crack in the door. Magic seeps out from these places and they run all over the world.

A convergence is the spot where one or more leylines cross.

Yes. While because of the leylines, magic can be accessed anywhere in the world, at an actual line it is stronger. A convergence is even stronger and those places tend to attract supernatural creatures, like a subconscious pull.

There are three realms.
This world – The realm we know and love. The realm all the characters live in.
The Fae – The realm of magic where the Fae live. It’s separated from our realm, save for leylines.
Spirit – Laying over our world is a realm that most can’t see. It’s the realm where all souls go after they die (save for Magi who return to The Fae).

Religion is exactly what it is in the OOC world. People pray to god. Wicca’s invoke Hecate or Diana in their spells. However, none of these exist in the actual mythos of the world outside of religion. Some stories may have been created because back when The Fae and our world were closer, some Fae may have been perceived as a god, or someone who was supernatural could have been the same. But when people die, their souls go to the Spirit. This is the place a vampire gets dragged back from or an Angel or a Demon gets resurrected from.

Species

Angels/Demons

No, only souls that are wholly good or wholly evil, to the point of being incapable of changing alignment, can be chosen.

No, prematurely would mean taken out of this world before your time. If someone lives 75 years and then has a heart attack, they’re not taken prematurely. However if a 35 year old man had a heart attack and died, then yes that would be prematurely.

Just because an angel or demon can’t access any actual memories from their former lives, they still have some sensory memories and retain whatever skills they had in life. It can be so far as an angel or demon finding parts of plays, books, music familiar when re-introduced to them. They also tend to get familiar feelings from certain stimuli and prefer it over others, tastes in food, clothing, music, or other forms of entertainment are frequently preferred over others, and can sometimes seem very out of character.

Yes, to an extent. ‘Simple deaths’ like being shot, stabbed, etc. Will leave a mark where the event happened. Poisonings, explosions, burning, etc. Will typically leave some sort of mark or representation of what happened. This can be pretty much anything the player wants. Feel free to reach out for ideas or to run ideas past us if concerned. Also, the mark is not an outright scar. Think of it more as a birthmark.

It varies. Some are reborn the next instant, others up to several years later. It depends on the angel or demon’s spirit, whether they are ready to return to the world immediately or if they want or need time to heal, whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually.

It’s a very “hot or cold” kind of feeling. Young demons, in their first tier, would get a sense a minute or two in advance of when the right “time” to do something is– but they might miss it, too. They can feel the moment coming, but they don’t necessarily know when the apex of that “coming” turns into “too late”. Also, younger demons don’t necessarily know exactly what the thing to do in that perfect moment is, though usually they can come up with something. Older demons learn better how to gauge when the exact moment is, as well as how best to execute whatever that moment requires.

Harbringer demons collect illnesses from the area around them, and redirect them to their specific targets. The older and more powerful a demon, the more powerful an illness they can collect and redirect. Illnesses require hosts, because a Harbringer’s body cannot carry a disease for more than a few minutes before it begins to break it down and destroy it, so many keep pet humans or small menageries, or even take jobs that give them the knowledge and resources to keep cultures of viral and bacterial illnesses. Starting in tier two, harbringers can start to depress a human or animal immune system so make it more likely that a disease takes hold, but in tier one they can only inflict infections on individuals already ill, recovering from an illness, or who are wounded or exhausted.

Angels can do a lot, but even they can’t cure everything. At some point an injury becomes the new normal for a person (just as a deformity is). Once this point has been hit by someone they can’t cure them. If they’re in pain, they can help with that, but as much as they may hate it, Angels know that some things are just meant to be. So, they put effort into what they can help.

Elementals

In short, no. However, some can use chemicals/science to change them. ie. dyes to change the color of water, chemicals to change the color of fire.

Up until their late teens, elementals age at the same rate as humans. After that, they slow down to about half that. An elemental at the age of sixty would look closer to the age of thirty-five, or so.

No, the genes have to be active for the age differences to come into play. Someone with elemental blood but no powers or elemental connection will age the same way as everyone else.

Magi

The big difference outside of the types of magic they can do (see: species pages) is how they access their magic. Because Magi are part Fae, they are part of The Fae (the realm that the Fae live in- where magic comes from). Magi can tap right into the magic of the Fae to cast spells. They don’t need actual spell or potions or anything.

Sorcerers on the other hand, borrow magic from The Fae. This means that they need tools to access the magics, and must train and practice to be able to use it (unlike Magi who are just born with the ability to use magic. Some species and those with magic in their bloodlines do have an easier time using magic). Tools can be a variety of things, from a simple somatic gesture, verbal incantation or an ingredient to focus on. Potions, wands, totems, staffs, etc are also used For sorcerers to use magic.

In the appearance section of the application, you want to make sure to describe your Magi’s wings. Wings can be anything, from angel wings or bird like wings, butterfly wings, bat wings, etc. They can appear to be any material, feathers, metal, rock (or a combination of materials). The wings are not strong enough to allow for flight (as they aren’t out long enough to build up the muscles). They’re a sign of the channeling part of the Magi and are ONLY visible when they tap directly into a leyline.

Technically, yes. However, the backlash can be quite severe and any seeking to do so may want to think hard before making their choice.

When pushed too hard, magic will snap back and ‘slap’ a Magi. The stronger, more powerful the spell, the harsher the backlash. It tends to affect someone two to three times stronger than the spell itself. Many times it will compliment the spell. A healing spell may take the life of something else. A spell to gain time may make you lose it. A spell to create fire may make it rain on you. Be creative, but it should also make sense. If you need any help with a specific situation please reach out to the mod.

Sorcerers

The big difference outside of the types of magic they can do (see: species pages) is how they access their magic. Because Magi are part Fae, they are part of The Fae (the realm that the Fae live in- where magic comes from). Magi can tap right into the magic of the Fae to cast spells. They don’t need actual spell or potions or anything.

Sorcerers on the other hand, borrow magic from The Fae. This means that they need tools to access the magics, and must train and practice to be able to use it (unlike Magi who are just born with the ability to use magic. Tools can be a variety of things, from a simple somatic gesture, verbal incantation or an ingredient to focus on. Potions, wands, totems, staffs, etc are also used For sorcerers to use magic.

Sorcerers

No. Only those with no magic in their blood, pure humans, can be gifted with psychic powers. However, there is one exception: sometimes siblings will both share psychic powers. It is not common, but neither is it extremely rare. In such cases, siblings nearly always have different psychic powers. Offspring of Psychics have a higher chance at being successful sorcerers.

Shifters

That depends on whether the shifter is settled or not. A shifter in the first tier, who has not settled on a range of forms yet, learns new forms with ease, but often only keeps their favorites or ones they are most comfortable with for longer than a few months, generally no more than three or four. Any others they then must relearn. A shifter who has settled has all of the forms within their range that they have learned, and do not need to “renew” the form– but they have a much harder time learning new forms, even within their settled range. A shifter of the cat persuasion, for example, might not have learned how to shift into a cheetah before settling; he or she can still learn this shape, but it will take much more time and more direct contact with the animal in question. To learn they need to see the animal live, direct contact with the animal makes it easier to learn their shape.

If the shifter intended to fall asleep or knew ahead of time– more than a couple seconds– that they would be knocked unconscious (through a poison or drug, for example, rather than in a fight), then they would hold their animal form, because their brain would be prepared to hold the form after a period of unconsciousness. If it was unexpected or accidental, their brain would not know to hold the shape and they would revert. A shifter dreaming in animal form, however, will always be in animal form in the dream.

Vampires

That depends on gender and how recently they have fed. Female vampires can have sex whenever they like, though they cannot self-lubricate. Male vampires have to have enough fresh blood in their system to get things moving, so if it has been more than a day since their last meal, probably not. Anything non-penetrative is fair game, however.

It depends on the vampire, really. The same way some humans like really spicy food and some don’t, vampires have personal preferences. There are a few general universals, like werecreatures don’t taste very good at all, but on the whole it depends entirely on the vampire’s personal tastes, which is up to its player.

Though vampires can always tell when they meet another vampire, due to the lack of body heat and heartbeat, they can only tell what kind another vampire is if they know enough about the other kinds to recognize their traits.
